Emergency Surgery Access and Management Policy
Version 1.0 approved 24 May 2024
The Emergency Surgery Access and Management Policy (PDF 425KB) provides the mandatory requirements for the consistent and structured management of emergency surgical services in South Australian public hospitals to facilitate safe, timely and equitable access to emergency surgery.
It is recognised that not all rural areas have dedicated emergency surgery staff, and therefore models of care may vary in these locations.
Applicability
This policy applies to all employees and contracted staff of SA Health; that is all employees and contracted staff of the Department for Health and Wellbeing (DHW), Local Health Networks (LHNs) including state-wide services aligned with those Networks and SA Ambulance Service (SAAS).
The delivery and management of elective surgery services are outside the scope of this policy.
