Infection Control Service (ICS) Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) Surveillance Program Guideline

The Infection Control Service (ICS) Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) Surveillance Program (PDF 302KB) provides information relating to the ICS HAI Surveillance Program. It aims to assist SA Health staff to understand and implement an effective ICS HAI Surveillance Program. The guideline supports consistent terminology and best-practice methodologies for accurate data collection, analysis and reporting to facilitate compliance with the Infection Prevention and Control and Healthcare Associated Infection Surveillance and Reporting Policy (PDF 369KB).

Applicability

This guideline applies to Local Health Network (LHN) facilities where surveillance and reporting requirements for HAI in accordance with national and state HAI surveillance and key performance indicator (KPI) programs exist. Refer to SA Health Healthcare associated infection surveillance program, Service agreements and Performance framework and key performance indicators for individual LHN hospital or facility requirements.

Private hospitals that voluntarily contribute to the SA Health ICS HAI Surveillance Program can refer to the guideline, however certain components may not be applicable and contributing facilities should refer to their local policies and procedures.
