People in Custody - Care and Treatment in Public Hospitals and Health Services Policy

The People in Custody - Care and Treatment in Public Hospitals and Health Services Policy (PDF 383KB) sets out the mandatory requirements to ensure safe and effective treatment in SA Health facilities for people in custody, including the escalation process for the modification and removal of restraints where required for optimal medical treatment.

Applicability

This Policy applies to all employees and contracted staff of SA Health; that is all employees and contracted staff of the Department for Health and Wellbeing (DHW), Local Health Networks (LHNs) including state-wide services aligned with those Networks, the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services, and SA Ambulance Service (SAAS).

Out of Scope

This Policy does not apply in relation to detainees in the custody of the Australian Border Force.
