Aboriginal Health Program Development Guideline
Version 2.0 approved 27 October 2023
SA Health is committed to improving Aboriginal health and wellbeing outcomes to a level comparable to other Australians, through ensuring continuous improvement in how SA Health responds to Aboriginal health challenges. SA Health acknowledges that engaging Aboriginal stakeholders throughout the development of programs will result in more effective and culturally respectful programs.
The Aboriginal Health Program Development Guideline (PDF 304KB) assists those developing programs which have an Aboriginal impact to actively engage Aboriginal stakeholders. The guideline aims to ensure that Aboriginal stakeholders and community members (where appropriate) have been engaged in the decisions that affect their health and wellbeing. Culturally respectful engagement will ensure that new or reviewed SA Health programs are developed in such a way that they optimally address Aboriginal health disadvantage.
Applicability
This guideline applies to all employees and contractors of SA Health; that is all employees and contractors of the Department for Health and Wellbeing (DHW), Local Health Networks (LHNs) including state-wide services aligned with those Networks, and SA Ambulance Service (SAAS).
