SA Health supports and fosters a culture in which employees feel they belong and feel safe at work. The culture aims to encourage all people to use their talents and to be valued for their contributions.

Encouraging and supporting diversity of the workforce means that we can better reflect and represent our diverse community and achieve positive outcomes for the community.

It means employees can express their thoughts, opinions and ideas in a respectful and psychologically safe environment, and will be heard.

SA Health is working to address the health inequities faced by Aboriginal people, reducing the gap in health outcomes between South Australia’s Aboriginal people and the rest of South Australia’s population.

SA Health is committed to ensuring that the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are heard and respected at every level of our organisation. Whilst diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts aim to support varied and intersectional identities and backgrounds, it is essential to distinguish the unique position that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have within the workplace culture and in the community.

Our organisation recognises Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the first peoples of Australia, and as such does not view the Aboriginal voice as a subset of general efforts towards diversity, equity, and inclusion. Strategies and action plans linked to the Aboriginal workforce can be found in the SA Health Aboriginal Cultural Learning Framework and Aboriginal Workforce Framework 2023-2031.

SA Health strives to be recognised by staff, consumers, and community as an employer, and as a health care system, that values and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

It’s important that each Local Health Network (LHN), SA Ambulance Service (SAAS), statewide services and the Department for Health and Wellbeing (DHW) can customise the way they do workplace and/or consumer DEI to meet the diverse needs of each operating environment. You can learn more about the unique profile of each service on the ‘Our Services’ webpage.
