Cardiac Testing Services at SALHN

The Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN) provides a comprehensive range of cardiac diagnostic services to support timely assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with suspected or known heart conditions. Our services are delivered in line with best practice standards, ensuring safe, accurate, and patient-centred care.

Services offered

We provide a range of non-invasive cardiac investigations, including:

  • Holter Monitoring – continuous heart rhythm recording over 24 hours
  • Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) – 24-hour assessment of blood pressure patterns
  • Event Monitoring – extended monitoring for intermittent cardiac symptoms
  • Electrocardiograms (ECG) – resting ECGs for baseline cardiac rhythm assessment
  • Echocardiography – ultrasound imaging of cardiac structure and function
  • Exercise Stress Echocardiography – functional assessment of the heart under exercise conditions using ultrasound imaging
  • Transoesophageal Echocardiography – functional assessment of the heart using internal ultrasound imaging
  • Cardiac MRI – imaging of the heart using MRI to assess heart structure, function and detect a range of heart conditions.

Referral Pathways

  • Referrals are accepted via Outpatient Services and must meet SALHN’s clinical referral criteria
  • Referrals should include relevant clinical history, current medications, and previous cardiac investigations
  • Urgent or high-priority referrals should be clearly identified by the referring clinician.

Patients will receive clear instructions prior to testing, including:

  • What to expect during their test
  • Preparation requirements (e.g., fasting, medication management, clothing)
  • Contact details for queries or rescheduling.
