SA Health contracts other non-government agencies to provide a range of drug and alcohol services through the Specialist Drug and Alcohol Assessment and Treatment Services program.

Services provided are:

  • Counselling services
  • Residential rehabilitation
  • Mobile assistance patrols
  • Sobering up services
  • An Integrated Youth Substance Misuse Specialist Service

In addition to the above, complementary services provided include:

  • Family Drug Support provides a counselling service to assist families dealing with drug and alcohol issues.
  • Tullawon Health Service Substance Misuse Referral Program.

Sobering Up Units

The Salvation Army (SA) Property Trust

Provides a safe environment where intoxicated persons may sober up until the effects of the substance consumed has subsided.

Location: Adelaide Metropolitan

Operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Mobile Assistance Patrol

Aboriginal Sobriety Group Indigenous Corporation

Mobile Assistance Patrols (MAPs) complement Sobering Up Units by transporting vulnerable intoxicated people to Sobering Up Units to ensure access to appropriate care.

Location: Adelaide Metropolitan

Operates 6:00 pm to 2:00 am 7 days a week

Integrated Youth Specialist Substance Misuse Service

Centacare

Centacare provides a sobering up unit, residential rehabilitation and outpatient counselling for young people aged 12-24 years. This includes:

  • counselling
  • individual and group work
  • information and support for family members.

Location: Statewide Youth Service located at Stepney (where appropriate outreach services or transfer of country clients to the metropolitan service can be arranged).

Operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Residential rehabilitation

Community-based residential alcohol and other drug program for people 21 years and over to address substance use issues. This includes:

  • counselling
  • social and community living skills
  • group work
  • relapse prevention
  • employment, education and living skills training
  • entry into non drug using community groups and activities of interest.

  • Vale Park
  • Brompton
  • Christies Beach
  • Smithfield
  • Glenelg

Family Drug Support

Operation of a telephone support service where messages can be left 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Training sessions and group meetings during the week and on weekends as required. This includes:

  • crisis support
  • counselling for families and friends of people who use drugs
  • gateway for participation in group meetings.

Provides a safe environment where intoxicated persons receive care and may sober up until the effects of the substance consumed has subsided.

Operates 5pm to 9am, 7 days per week.

Location: Port Augusta

Yalata Anangu Aboriginal Corporation

Provides a safe environment where intoxicated persons may sober up until the effects of the substance consumed has subsided.

Location: Ceduna

Operates 6 days per week, Monday to Saturday between the hours of 5pm to 9am inclusive.
