The Women’s and Children’s Hospital is South Australia's specialist facility for women's and children's health.

It is the leading provider of care for children with acute and chronic conditions in South Australia, and the State's largest maternity and obstetric service.

The South Australian Government has committed to the development of a new Women’s and Children’s Hospital (New WCH), located on the existing Police barracks site, in close proximity to the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) and the Adelaide BioMed City.

The New WCH will be a leading clinical facility dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of babies, children, young people, women and their families, as well as the diverse communities that make up Adelaide’s population.

  • 25% bigger than the current WCH
  • critical care services all on one floor including birthing, theatres, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • an integrated 4 bed Intensive Care Unit for women, co-located with the Paediatric ICU enabling women requiring high care to remain at the New WCH
  • 56 more overnight beds
  • a dedicated Helicopter Landing Site (HLS) with direct access to critical clinical areas
  • future capacity for a further 20 beds and cardiac surgery
  • dedicated sterilisation facilities
  • park lands connectivity, landscaped areas and play facilities for families, enhancing recovery and wellbeing
  • new WCH and RAH expansion capacity
  • dedicated car park

Construction

Construction works are scheduled for completion in 2030-2031.
