Volunteers at SALHN

VollieCare is proud to support the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN) with a dedicated team of volunteers who generously give their time, energy and compassion across Flinders Medical Centre, Noarlunga Hospital and the Repat Health Precinct.

Volunteering can make a positive difference in your life and the life of those around you. Whether it’s offering a friendly smile, lending a helping hand, or providing comfort and connection, our volunteers make a meaningful difference. Find information about becoming a volunteer at SALHN.

Since 1975, VollieCare has contributed more than $16 million towards patient care, improved facilities, staff education, and vital research.

Every day, our volunteers make a meaningful difference. Whether it’s offering a friendly smile, lending a helping hand, or providing comfort and connection.

Volunteers work in patient services and in retail areas. Wherever they work, our volunteers are getting involved, being active and having a voice in their community.

Patient care initiatives

Nurture Boxes – Provided to palliative patients and their families/carers, these thoughtfully curated boxes offer comfort and support during a difficult time. Items include a handmade blanket for warmth and colour, forget-me-not seeds, lip balm, hand cream, lavender, and a hand carved comfort bird with a poem.

Activity Packs (Adults) – Designed to keep patients engaged and occupied, these packs contain a mindful colouring booklet, puzzle booklet (word searches, crosswords), coloured pencils, a pen, and a notebook.

Activity Packs (Kids) – Packed with fun activities like colouring, playdough, and a sensory toy, these kits brighten a child’s hospital stay while also giving parents a much-needed moment of rest.

Sensory/Fidget Blankets – Created for patients living with dementia or anxiety, these blankets provide sensory stimulation with features like zippers, buttons, textured fabrics, and other interactive elements.

Betty Cares Clothing Packs – In partnership with the Betty Cares Foundation, these packs provide clothing for women in crisis, such as those experiencing domestic violence or homelessness. Each tote bag includes pants, a t-shirt, a jumper, and three pairs of underwear.

Pet Therapy – Volunteers and their therapy dogs visit patients and staff across all three SALHN sites. To request a visit, contact the VollieCare office with the patient’s name, ward, and bed number.
