Paediatric Unit at Flinders Medical Centre
The Paediatric Inpatient Unit and Paediatric Outpatient Clinics are located on level 4 of Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) and provide patients with access to specialist paediatric care, and inpatient medical and surgical care. Flinders Medical Centre also provides state of the art medical imaging facilities and multidisciplinary allied health services to children.

Paediatric emergency
This is under the auspice of the Emergency Department at FMC, which has a special section for assessing children. An adjacent waiting area contains toys, a television and videos. Each year upwards of 20,000 children are seen in emergency and 20% of these are admitted to FMC. See Paediatric Emergency Department.
Inpatient Unit
Our 33 bed Paediatric Inpatient Unit (children’s ward), is specifically designed to meet the needs of children and their families. Children are admitted to the Paediatric Unit for problems ranging from emergency medical and surgical conditions to adolescent disorders.
Surgery for children is also provided in specialties including ENT, Orthopaedics, Plastics and Dental.
We welcome parents to visit as often as possible during their child’s hospital stay and encourage them to live-in.
Paediatric outpatients
An extensive range of paediatric clinics are available at FMC, with some clinics provided in collaboration with visiting specialists from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. For families living south of the hospital, FMC offers clinics at Noarlunga Health Services as an outreach service.
