Anaesthesia and Pain Management Services at Flinders Medical Centre

Anaesthesia

The Anaesthesia Department provides anaesthesia services for most of the divisions at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC). The expertise required of the staff is broader ranging than in any other hospital in South Australia. It includes all surgical specialties, obstetrics, neonatal surgery, liver transplant, cardiac surgery, paediatric surgery and major trauma.

Anaesthesia provides substantial emergency cover out of hours, for emergency surgery and the Labour and Delivery Suite, plus covering emergencies and unexpected demands within hours.

The Pre-Admission Unit is available for people coming in for planned or elective surgery.

Anaesthesia provides staff for three pre-admission clinics – general, obstetric and cardiac.
