Wound Management Clinic at Flinders Medical Centre
The Wound Management Clinic is run by a Wound Management Nurse Practitioner skilled in this area.
The clinic provides care to newly referred patients with an acute, chronic or complex wound, or patients who were a hospitalised and require follow up care.
Each patient has a comprehensive assessment to determine why the wound is there, or why it is not healing. The individual’s medical, surgical and social history is reviewed, and a physical assessment is conducted. Further diagnostic investigations may be ordered to support the assessment. Their wound and skin will be assessed and a management plan including wound dressings, will be decided.
Education will be provided to ensure there is an understanding of the problem and participation in healthy lifestyle and wound healing practices. Patients may be assessed to require a referral to other medical or surgical specialties for further treatment or diagnosis and this will be organised in a timely manner.
