Regional Operations Centre (ROC)
The Regional Operations Centre (ROC) provides a single point of contact coordinating referrals for regional patients in metropolitan hospitals requiring care closer to home including:
- Metropolitan to regional hospital transfers
- Regional Community Services (supported discharge services - to be known as Priority Out-Patients or POP, or other community services)
- Regional Transition Care Program packages is also managed centrally by ROC.
The ROC discuss options with the referring metropolitan hospital team to determine the most appropriate pathway.
Exclusions: Hospital Transfers for mental health and paediatrics patients
The ROC is open 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday and 8:00 am – 4:30 pm weekends and public holidays. The ROC is managed by the Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network (BHFLHN) but supports all patients whose home residence is in a regional LHN catchment. The ROC does not manage interstate transfers.
Metropolitan hospital teams refer to the ROC when:
- The patient is from a peri-urban or regional area and once tertiary care is complete, will require ongoing hospital or community-based care on discharge.
- The patient is within 72 hours (or less) of no longer requiring tertiary level care.
Further information about when to refer to the ROC - SHCC Clinical Decision Support Tool (A3 poster) (PDF 79KB).
Further information
Comprehensive and detailed information about the ROC is available on the SA Health intranet.
For patients needing inpatient care, once referral for transfer has been accepted and medical handover is complete, sending clinicians use the SIFT e-form (SIFT Form) to increase visibility of patient transfer.
