Community Pharmacy Expanded Scope of Practice
Under the Community Pharmacy Expanded Scope of Practice initiative, eligible people in South Australia will be able to access advice and treatment for a broader range of common acute conditions and health and wellbeing issues from authorised community pharmacists.
Pharmacists are highly qualified and trusted members of our healthcare system. Expanding their scope of practice gives the community greater access and choice to get the healthcare they need, while also helping to reduce pressure across our busy health system. This will also bring South Australia’s community pharmacy services into closer alignment with those interstate, helping ensure fairer and easier access.
Community Pharmacy Expanded Scope of Practice has been legally enabled in South Australia. Services will gradually become available as pharmacists complete the required postgraduate qualification. A small number of community pharmacies will provide services from early 2026, with additional pharmacies anticipated to offer these services later in the year and in early 2027.
