What we do

The MNGSELC is the lead support service for maternity, neonatal and gynaecology (excluding gynaecology oncology) care in South Australia (SA). As part of the SA Health Clinical Governance Framework (PDF 3188KB), its principal role and functions are to provide strategic leadership advice and support to Department for Health and Wellbeing (DHW) and Local Health Networks (LHNs) on statewide policy, clinical guidelines, strategy development and implementation, and national initiatives.
The key function of the MNGSELC is to improve clinical outcomes and experiences of care for pregnant and birthing women (or pregnant people), their infants and more broadly, their families, along with women, girls and people who were born female, requiring gynaecological care.

The MNGSELC facilitates strong collaboration across the SA Health public system with the DHW Clinical System Support and Improvement Division, Local Health Networks, the Rural Support Service (RSS), Preventive Health SA, the Commission on Excellence and Innovation in Health (CEIH), the SA Ambulance Service (SAAS)/MedSTAR and other government and non-government organisations as required.
