Opening hours
Opening hours are Monday to Friday 8.00 am to 4.00 pm and phones are open 9.00 am 4.00 pm. Clinical consultations available five days a week and procedures taking place three days a week. Same day services are available to regional patients only.
It is necessary to make an appointment prior to attending the Pregnancy Advisory Centre by contacting (08) 7117 8999.
Waiting for an appointment can be a stressful time; if you no longer need your scheduled appointment, let us know by calling or leaving a message at the Pregnancy Advisory Centre to cancel, or you can email HealthPAC@sa.gov.au including your name, date of birth with your appointment day and time.

Flinders Medical Centre offers an early medication abortion service up to 9 weeks gestation and a surgical abortion service up to 15 weeks gestation
consultation appointments are available on Tuesday mornings
abortion procedures occur on alternate Thursday mornings
patients who do not have a Medicare card can obtain a service from the Flinders Medical Centre and the costs that apply will be discussed with you beforehand
please bring your Medicare card or Health Care card on the day of your procedure

What patients need to do before a consultation at the Pregnancy Advisory Unit
before any procedure, your health information is required for Pregnancy Advisory Unit staff to discuss with you when you attend for a consultation
specific client information is required to be collected from Women’s Health Clinic in the week prior to the appointment as pathology testing is required ahead of the appointment (some country areas may have the information posted out).
included in the client information is a pathology form with instructions for you to have blood and urine tests at a SA Pathology clinic before you attend at your confirmed appointment
staff of the Pregnancy Advisory Unit will do an ultrasound scan at the time of your consultation.

What patients need to know about services at the Noarlunga Hospital
Referrals are not required to attend for services at the Pregnancy Advisory Unit.
Noarlunga Hospital offers a medical procedure from 6-8 weeks or a surgical procedure from 6-12 weeks.
Appointments are available on Wednesday mornings.
Procedures are completed on the Friday. Medical treatment on Friday mornings and surgical procedures on Friday afternoons. * Please note the two day appointment process.

Patients who do not have a Medicare card can obtain a service at the Noarlunga Hospital and the costs that apply will be discussed with you beforehand. Payment is required prior to the appointment/treatment.

Before any procedure, your health information is important for Pregnancy Advisory Unit staff to be able to discuss with you when you attend for a consultation
Specific client information will be required to be picked up prior to the appointment or posted to you, time dependent
Included in the client information is a pathology form with instructions for you to have blood and urine tests at a SA Pathology clinic before you attend at your confirmed appointment

At your first appointment the nurse at the Pregnancy Advisory Unit will speak with you about what to expect on the day of your procedure and check that all the forms and tests required before the procedure have been completed.

What patients need to know about services at the Lyell McEwin Hospital
Referrals are not required to attend for services at the Family Advisory Clinic
Lyell McEwin hospital offers a surgical procedure from 6 to 12 weeks gestation
A same day service is available on Tuesday’s, with the consultation appointment in the morning between 8.30 am to 11.30 am and procedures in the afternoon from 1.00 pm
You can ring for an appointment Monday to Friday during business hours
You will need to confirm your appointment by telephone on the previous Thursday between 8.00 am and 12.00 pm before your scheduled procedure the following Tuesday
Phone the Lyell McEwin hospital on (08) 8182 9000 and ask for the Family Planning Midwife to be paged
Failure to confirm your appointment will result in the appointment being cancelled
Please bring your Medicare card and Health Care card on the day of your procedure

If you are planning to access contraception on the day of your procedure, please discuss this with the nurse at the time of confirming your appointment, so that the options and any costs can be explained to you prior to attending for your procedure

What patients need to do before a consultation at the Family Advisory Clinic
Before any procedure, your health information is required for Family Advisory Clinic staff to discuss with you when you confirm your appointment
Instructions to have blood tests done on the Friday or Saturday prior to the procedure will be discussed with you at the time of confirmation if required.
Staff of the Family Advisory Clinic will do an ultrasound scan at the time of your consultation
On the Thursday that you confirm your appointment, the nurse at the Family Advisory Clinic will speak with you about what to expect on the day of your procedure and complete a Patient Health Questionnaire and Anaesthetic / Surgical Assessment; takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
Clare and Burra Hospital
For patients up to 12 weeks (surgical). Medication abortion also available.
The Patient Assistance Transport Scheme (PATS) provides some reimbursement to country patients and approved escorts for travel and accommodation costs.
