A patient's journey through illness and disease relies on decisions made by effective, safe, and high-quality imaging. The improvements in modern healthcare can only be achieved through continuous research and development, which requires state of the art medical imaging.
SA Medical Imaging (SAMI) contributes to the long term outcomes of all patients accessing our public health system through the participation of medical imaging and nuclear medicine specialities in medical research and clinical trials.
SAMI engages in clinical and pre-clinical research across all types of medical imaging and nuclear medicine, as well as collaborating with SA Health departments through support to internal research groups. SAMI also actively collaborates with external researchers and in conjunction with the South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI), tertiary institutions (University of Adelaide, University of South Australia and Flinders University) and several industry partners.
Grants obtained under the current public system have funded new equipment and additional staff to support these research opportunities. The research opportunities provided by large tertiary public healthcare centres are unique. Partnerships with SAMI are integral to the development of new tests, treatments, methodologies and pharmaceuticals, which have enhanced healthcare and outcomes for all South Australians.
