The new Rural Workforce Collaborative
The Minister for Health and Wellbeing, the Hon. Chris Picton, launched the new Rural Workforce Collaborative on Thursday 15 December 2022.
The event brought together more than 150 people to identify barriers and solutions associated with improving health care for rural South Australians.
Contributions on how to overcome South Australia’s regional workforce challenges were heard from peak bodies, advocacy groups, government, health professionals and staff, clinicians, executives and managers of regional Local Health Networks.
The Collaborative will provide recommendations for the State Government’s policies, strategies and priority setting to help shape the rural, regional and remote workforce over the next four years.
This includes improving the recruitment, training and retention of the rural workforce across all health professions.
Additionally, it will support the delivery of the State Government’s election promise to recruit and retain 10 FTE country specialist doctors.
The Collaborative will also help review the implementation status of six previously developed Rural Health Workforce Plans:
- SA Rural Medical Workforce Plan 2019-24
- SA Ambulance Service Workforce Plan 2020-25
- SA Rural Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Plan 2021–26
- SA Rural Allied and Scientific Health Workforce Plan 2021-26
- SA Rural Aboriginal Health Workforce Plan 2021-26
- SA Rural Oral Health Plan 2021–26.
The Rural Support Service is coordinating the new Rural Workforce Collaborative as part of its commitment to advocating for the health priorities of regional South Australians.
