What is the Statewide Referral Management System?
The Statewide Referral Management System (SRMS) has established a single electronic referral system across SA Health that will enable GPs to digitally refer to SA Health Outpatient Clinics, replacing the use of fax and letters.
What are the Clinical Prioritisation Criteria (CPCs)?
The CPCs are being developed to provide referring clinicians with consistent information on common conditions and required criteria for GPs to complete to assist triaging within SA health.
The program will initially start off with a General Form and six Clinical Prioritisation Criteria (CPCs) with additional CPCs added as they become available.
See the eReferrals and CPCs page for more information including the initial integrated CPCs.
I want to refer to a service that doesn’t have an associated CPC Form. What do I do?
If the service you wish to refer to doesn’t have a CPC form available, you can complete the General Form which can be sent to your preferred Outpatient Service.
What are the benefits for a GP?
- You will no longer be required to fax/email/post referrals to an SA Health Outpatient Service.
- The HealthLink SmartForm will auto populate information from your practice management software, meaning you will not have to type in demographic and background information for the patient.
- You (the GP) will receive status confirmations of the submitted referral – accepted, declined and/or further information required.
- Two Way Communication will be available between the GP and Outpatient Service.
What is an eReferral SmartForm and where are they accessed from?
An eReferral SmartForm is a digital referral form that can be sent securely from one healthcare provider to another requesting services for a patient.
The eReferral Smartforms will be available from the HealthLink portal within your Practice Management Software.
Previously one referral could be duplicated if two or more services were required. Will this process still occur?
As this is an electronic pathway, referrals are unable to be duplicated. If the patient is required to see more than once service, a separate referral will be required by the patients referring GP.
I don’t have a HealthLink account, can I still refer into SA Health electronically?
No. To access the General Form and available CPC forms, a HealthLink account will be required.
How do I register for a HealthLink account?
You can register for a free HealthLink account. Please complete the form to register for a HealthLink Client or Portal Account.
Upon receipt of your application, you may be called to verify your practice details, or the details of your providers by a HealthLink Registration Team member.
You will be notified by HealthLink once your application is approved. The process of approval may take three working days.
How do I update my HealthLink account details?
For updates to your account information, please email request@healthlink.net.
I use a Practice Management System that isn’t listed as compatible, can I still refer into a Local Health Network?
If you do not use one of the compatible Practice Management Systems below:
- Best Practice
- Medical Director
- Genie
- ZedMed
You can access the MyHealthLinkPortal after you register as per instructions. See How do I register for a HealthLink account? if you do not have an account.
Will there be training provided for GPs to follow?
Relevant instructions and user guides for GPs are available on the eReferral system training and guides for referring clinicians page.
Alternatively, the HealthLink website provides educational videos on how to locate and send an eReferral Smartform from the compatible Practice Management Systems.
How will I know if I can refer to a Local Health Network electronically?
The first Local Health Network to go live will be the Women’s and Children’s Hospital on 13 September 2023. Subsequent Local Health Networks will commence in late 2023 and throughout 2024.
When a Local Health Network has gone live, they will appear as a recipient within the HealthLink eReferrals Smartform list.
What happens if an outage occurs to the Statewide Referral Management System?
If an outage occurs to the Referral Management System, GPs will be notified via email. The emailing address used will be the contact email provided from the Health Provider Registry.
