What are the visiting hours for the Special Care Nursery (SCN)?

Parents and siblings can visit at any time. Siblings are welcome but those under the age of 15 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

For others, our visiting hours are daily from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, and from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Where can I park when visiting the Special Care Nursery?

Designated parking spaces are available in the hospital multistorey parking building. Please follow signage for visitor parking. Parking is free for the parents of babies in the SCN. In addition, there may be street parking available nearby.

Can I stay overnight with my baby in the Special Care Nursery?

Overnight stays depend on the availability of parent rooms and the specific needs of your baby. Please speak with a member of our team to discuss accommodations and possibilities.

What infection control measures are in place to protect my baby?

The health and safety of your baby is our top priority. We have strict infection control measures in place, including hand washing and sanitising protocols for all visitors and staff, as well as restricted access to the nursery area.

How can I track my baby's progress and treatment plan?

Our team will provide regular updates on your baby's condition, treatment plan, and progress. You are encouraged to ask questions and participate in care decisions. Open communication between families and our team is essential for providing the best care for your baby.

Can I bring personal items for my baby to the Special Care Nursery?

Yes, you may bring personal items such as blankets, clothing, or small toys for your baby. Please ensure all items are clean and labelled with your baby's name. We recommend checking with our staff before bringing any items to ensure they are appropriate and safe for the nursery environment.

What support services are available for families during their baby's stay at the Special Care Nursery?

Our team includes social workers, Aboriginal Liaison Officers (ALO), lactation consultants, and other support staff who can assist with various needs, such as emotional support, breastfeeding guidance, and financial assistance resources. Please feel free to discuss any concerns or needs with our team members.

What happens when my baby is ready to be discharged from the Special Care Nursery?

Our team will work closely with you to prepare for your baby's transition home. This includes providing education, resources, and support to ensure a smooth and successful transition. Discharge planning begins as soon as your baby is admitted to the Special Care Nursery and will be tailored to your baby's unique needs.
