Training program helps locals remain in region

A new campaign is underway, putting the spotlight on a training program which gives students a chance to get degree qualified and gain on-the-job experience without being forced to leave the region.
The Yorke and Northern Local Health Network (YNLHN) has launched its ‘No Place Like Home’ initiative, showcasing the career opportunities in Allied Health through its cadetship program.
Promoted across the Network’s social media channels, it spreads the message that great careers, which includes degree qualified training and paid internships, are available locally without the need to leave home.
School leavers and their parents are the focus of the month-long campaign, with parents being invited to discuss this unique opportunity with their children and encourage them to consider a local option.
The social media roll out comes ahead of the next intake for the YNLHN Allied Health Cadetship Program opening in early January 2025.
Delivered in partnership with UniHub, the program provides paid on-the-job experience and degree pathways for range of aspiring allied health professionals, with flexible study options that include online universities like Charles Darwin University.
Offered in Clare, Wallaroo, Port Pirie and Kadina, the program employs participants as Allied Health “cadets” under the supervision of qualified practitioners, giving them access to their dream career from day one while setting aside time for formal university study.
The program is aimed at growing the region’s workforce, by keeping talented locals in the community where their unique skillsets are needed.
Allied Health focuses on disciplines outside of the medical, dental or nursing professions such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology.
The practitioners will play a vital role in working with the students to identify and assess issues, provide treatment and support acquisition of skills, recovery and reablement.
