State Public Health Plan

The State Public Health Plan 2026 Healthy | Liveable | Connected (PDF 5.7MB) is a blueprint for action on the State’s public health priorities. It aims to effectively communicate to all audiences what public health is and provide a framework to those responsible, both directly and indirectly, in the development of actions which can improve public health outcomes.

The Plan provides a framework to work together to take early action to protect health, prevent illness and promote physical and mental health and wellbeing for all South Australians, supporting the principles and objectives of the South Australian Public Health Act 2011.

The Plan was co-developed in partnership with a diverse set of public health stakeholders in South Australia, following consultations and workshops during the first half of 2025 culminating in a public consultation during October and November 2025.

The Plan introduces five priority areas, each with a set of strategic directions to help guide collective action across all public health stakeholders. These priority areas complement the ongoing, essential public health work led by the diverse set of public health partners across South Australia.

The Plan’s priority areas are:

  • Prevent and control the spread of infectious disease
  • Promote healthy living to reduce chronic disease
  • Improve mental health and wellbeing
  • Reduce the risk, burden and severity of injury
  • Ensure healthy environments for human health

An interactive online version of the Plan is currently in development and due for release in late July 2026.
