Our aim

The SA Cervix Screening Program (SACSP) supports the delivery of the National Cervical Screening Program in South Australia. Towards this goal, SACSP is focussed on improving service delivery and maximising participation in cervical screening in South Australia via community education, partnerships with groups at increased risk of cervical cancer, awareness campaigns, grants, healthcare provider updates and training, local research and partnerships with key agencies.

One of the main tasks of the SA Cervix Screening Program (SACSP) is to encourage women to have a Cervical Screening Test every five years in line with the updated national policy. This includes targeting the general population of women, with particular emphasis on women who are either under-screened (four or more years overdue for a Pap smear or Cervical Screening Test) or never screened (women who have never had a Pap smear or Cervical Screening Test).

In recognition that Aboriginal women often have poorer health than non Aboriginal women, SACSP has a specific team working with Aboriginal communities across SA to promote Well Women's Screening Checks.

What we do

  • a range of activities which encourage women’s participation in cervical screening such as community education, awareness campaigns, resource development and grants.
  • inform service providers of policy and guidelines
  • support the national registry to ensure women return for regular Cervical Screening Tests and/or followup tests
  • work to address the needs of women from multicultural backgrounds.

A dedicated Multicultural Project Officer works in partnership with community groups and agencies to ensure people from multicultural backgrounds understand the need for cervical screening and are supported to access appointments.

We work with the National Cancer Screening Register, which is a central database that contains a woman’s history of Cervical Screening Tests and other cancer related test results in Australia.

National Cancer Screening Register

The National Cancer Screening Register ensures consistent data collection across Australia for all cancer screening.
