Vascular conditions
Please note this is not an exhaustive list of all conditions for outpatient services and does not exclude consideration for referral unless specifically stipulated in the vascular exclusions section.
- Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)
- Carotid Artery Disease (CAD)
- High-risk Foot
- Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)
- Varicose Veins / Venous Disease
Out of scope
Not all medical conditions are covered by the CPC, as certain conditions may be considered out of scope or managed by other specialist services.
Adult conditions out of scope
- lipedema or lymphoedema without evidence of venous incompetence - referral to relevant Local Health Network Lymphoedema Clinics or Physiotherapy Outpatient Services where available or privately
- Raynaud’s phenomenon unless referred by Rheumatologist - refer to Rheumatology.
- pulsatile tinnitus – refer to Ear, Nose and Throat — Tinnitus — Adult CPC
- dizziness – refer to Cardiology for concerns of Syncope or Pre-Syncope or Ear, Nose and Throat - Dizziness and Vertigo — Adult CPC
Vascular exclusions for public specialist outpatient services
Not all vascular conditions are appropriate for referral into the South Australian public health system. Exceptions are possible where clinically indicated. The following are not routinely provided in a public specialist outpatient service:
Adult exclusions
- varicose veins without specific criteria – see Varicose Veins / Venous Disease — Adult CPC
- patients seeking compression hosiery alone should be referred to relevant Local Health Network Lymphoedema Clinics or Physiotherapy Outpatient Services or private providers. Contact details and referral criteria for public lymphoedema services
- asymptomatic carotid disease with stenosis < 70%
- isolated external carotid artery stenosis
- asymptomatic peripheral vascular disease
- claudication with walking distance >200m
