SA Health Regional Aged Care Strategy 2021-2025
As a system, SA Health is one of the largest providers of aged care services in regional South Australia.
Evolving demographic, workforce, governance and consumer preferences are changing the way aged care services are delivered in regional South Australian communities. The aged care sector is also evolving as a result of the significant reforms being driven in response to the to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
The Government of South Australia is committed to ensuring that older South Australians living in regional areas continue to have access to high quality and sustainable aged care services that support them in ageing well in an environment of their choosing.
The SA Health Regional Aged Care Strategy 2021–2025 (the Strategy) is a key priority and an important step in setting the vision for the provision of high quality, contemporary and sustainable aged care services by SA Health, which meets the needs of South Australian communities now and in the future.
The Strategy was developed over 12 months, as part of a co-designed process between the six regional Local Health Networks and their Governing Boards, the Rural Support Service, and the Department for Health and Wellbeing.
The Strategy acknowledges the changing aged care environment and seeks to support and position SA Health to adapt to reforms that will enhance system sustainability and promote high quality, contemporary care, closer to home.
The Strategy provides a roadmap, and co-designed principles, that set out the actions SA Health will take to effectively respond to the expected policy, regulatory and funding reforms over the next five years.
