Cancer incidence and mortality statistics
The data collected by the South Australian Cancer Registry are used routinely to evaluate the impact of screening programs such as the Cervix Screening Program and BreastScreen SA. They are also used to examine the impact of anti-smoking and sun protection campaigns. In addition, Registry data enable research into:
- cancer risk factors
- unusual incidence patterns of cancer
- exceptional cancer risks encountered by some sectors of the population.
Without Registry data, the evidence for focusing the cancer control effort would be lacking.
