The Pregnancy Advisory Centre is a CALHN service established in 1992. See the website for appointment, service and contact details.

What patients need to know about services at the Flinders Medical Centre
- referrals are not required
- early medication abortion service are offered up to 9 weeks gestation
- surgical abortions are offered up to 15 weeks gestation
- consultation appointments are available on Tuesday mornings
- surgical procedures occur on alternate Thursday afternoons
- patients who do not have a Medicare card can obtain a service from the Flinders Medical Centre and the costs that apply will be discussed with you beforehand
- please bring your Medicare card or Health Care card on the day of your procedure
- following a surgical procedure, you must have a responsible person over 18 to take you home and stay with you overnight.
- during the medical termination at home, you must have a responsible person over 18 stay with you for 24 hours.
What patients need to do before a consultation at the Pregnancy Advisory Unit
- before any procedure, your health information is required for Pregnancy Advisory Service staff to discuss with you when you attend for a consultation
- specific information about your appointment can be sent electronically at the time of booking, please read this before your consultation.
- during your consultation, staff of the Pregnancy Advisory service will do an ultrasound scan and order pathology tests if required.
For patients up to 12 weeks (surgical). Medication abortion also available.

What patients need to know about services at the Lyell McEwin Hospital
- Referrals are not required to attend for services at the Family Advisory Clinic
- Lyell McEwin hospital offers a surgical procedure from 6 to 12 weeks and 6 days gestation
- A same day service is available on Tuesday’s, with the consultation appointment in the morning between 8.30 am to 11.30 am and procedures in the afternoon from 1.00 pm
- You can ring for an appointment Monday to Friday during business hours
- You will need to confirm your appointment by telephone on the previous Thursday between 8.00 am and 12.00 pm before your scheduled procedure the following Tuesday
- Failure to confirm your appointment will result in the appointment being cancelled
- Please bring your Medicare card and Health Care card on the day of your procedure
- Patients who do not have a Medicare card can obtain a service from the Lyell McEwin hospital and the costs that apply will be discussed with you beforehand
- If you are planning to access contraception on the day of your procedure, please discuss this with the nurse at the time of confirming your appointment, so that the options and any costs can be explained to you prior to attending for your procedure
- You must have a responsible person over 18 to take you home and stay with you overnight following your procedure
What patients need to do before a consultation at the Family Advisory Clinic
- On the Thursday before your app, you confirm your appointment with a phone appointment, the nurse at the Family Advisory Clinic will speak with you about what to expect on the day of your procedure. You will complete a Patient Health Questionnaire and Anaesthetic / Surgical Assessment this takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
- Instructions to have blood tests done on the Friday or Saturday prior to the procedure will be discussed with you at the time of confirmation.
- Staff of the Family Advisory Clinic will do an ultrasound scan at the time of your consultation.

What patients need to know about services at Mt Barker hospital
- Referrals are not required to attend for services at the Early Pregnancy Unit
- offers surgical terminations to 12 weeks and 6 days gestation and medical terminations to 8 weeks and 6 days gestation
- The EPU Clinic is held on a Thursday
- We offer scans during the appointment. You do not need to have one prior
- Surgical terminations are offered on Tuesday and Friday
- You can ring for an appointment Monday to Friday during business hours
- Please bring your Medicare card and Health Care card (if applicable) on the day of your procedure
- Patients who do not have a Medicare card can obtain a service from Mt Barker Hospital and the costs that apply will be discussed with you beforehand
- You must have a responsible person over 18 to take you home and stay with you overnight following your procedure
- There are restrictions on who can access a surgical termination at Mt Barker. These include:
- patients living in a metropolitan catchment area will not be able to access the Early Pregnancy Unit. All regional patients can access our clinic.
- Body Mass Index must be below 40 and you must not have medical problems that make your anaesthetic procedure high risk. These can be discussed at your appointment if required.

What patients need to know about services at the Noarlunga Hospital
- referrals are not required
- early medication termination of pregnancy is offered up to 9 weeks gestation
- surgical procedure is offered up to 13 weeks gestation
- you must be at least 17 years old to book at Noarlunga Hospital Pregnancy Advisory Service
- appointments are available weekly on Friday mornings
- surgical procedures occur on Friday afternoons, usually on the same day as your appointment. There are reasons that a surgical procedure would need to be scheduled for a different day, and this will be discussed during your consultation
- please bring your Medicare card or Health Care card on the day of your procedure. Patients who do not have a Medicare card can obtain a service at the Noarlunga Hospital and the costs that apply will be discussed with you beforehand. Payment is required prior to the appointment/treatment.
- you must have a responsible person over 18 to take you home and stay with you overnight following your procedure
- during the medical termination at home, you must have a responsible person over 18 stay with you for 24 hours.

What clients need to do before a consultation at the Pregnancy Advisory Service
- Specific information about your appointment can be sent electronically at the time of booking. Please read this carefully before your consultation. Here you will find instructions for you to have blood and urine tests at a SA Pathology before your consultation.
- The pathology form is to be collected from the Outpatient Clinic at Noarlunga Hospital. People residing in some country areas may have the pathology forms posted.
- Staff of the Pregnancy Advisory Service will do an ultrasound scan at the time of your consultation.
