BreastScreen SA Reopens Services after COVID-19 Closure

24 April 2020

BreastScreen SA is restarting its breast cancer screening program from Thursday 30 April 2020, after it was temporarily closed on 30 March 2020 amidst the Coronavirus (COVID‑19) outbreak.

Screening services will recommence slowly through a planned, staged approach to ensure clients can access screening safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. Extended, priority appointments will be offered at its Christies Beach, Elizabeth, Frome Road and Marion clinics initially, with Hyde Park, David Jones Rose and Arndale clinics to reopen in the next few weeks.

BreastScreen SA will contact those clients who had their existing appointments postponed due to the temporary COVID-19 closure to offer them a priority booking in the first instance. Invitations will then be extended to include those clients who are now due for a breast screen.

The three Mobile Screening Units that travel across the state are currently being upgraded, including the installation of new mammography machines. Mobile services will be returning to Murray Bridge in mid-May 2020, Millicent in early June 2020 and Berri in mid-June 2020 to complete their interrupted screening visits.

Clients can expect longer screening appointment times to allow for adequate social distancing, while a newly convened Clinical Reference Group will monitor the situation and advise the service on how it can safely deliver screening during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If your breast screen appointment was postponed or cancelled due to COVID-19, please call BreastScreen SA on 132050 to book a priority appointment.
