Breast implant alert

2 August 2019

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Australia’s regulatory authority for therapeutic goods, has recently issued an alert on certain types of breast implants due to a small but increased risk of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

The TGA has advised if consumers are not experiencing any symptoms, there is no requirement for implants to be surgically removed.

People concerned about existing breast implants should seek advice from their GP first, and/or the practitioner who performed their surgery.
