Grant purpose:

These two grants will support improved physical and mental health and wellbeing and social connections in adults through active environmental projects.

Target population:

Two Wells: residents of Two Wells, Mallala, Lewiston and Dublin with a focus on those aged 40 years and over.

Yankalilla: residents within the District Council of Yankalilla, with a focus on those aged between 40-80 years.

External partner and their role:

Active Ageing Australia: will complement the Green Gym program by assisting with the physical activity program design, implementation and evaluation.  Active Ageing will also deliver Moving for Life Your Way workshops.

Project overview:

The Green Gym programs at both Two Wells and Yankalilla will utilise Ecotherapy and “Five Ways to Wellbeing in Nature” principles to positively improve physical and mental wellbeing. The programs will take place both within the community gardens and in the broader community itself, such as at beaches and local green spaces.

The program aims to improve social connections and reduce social isolation, increase participation in physical activity and improve mental wellbeing.

The Green Gym programs will run for 30 weeks in Yankalilla and 40 weeks in Two Wells, and also include educational workshops and working bees.
