External partner and their role
Heart Foundation: The Heart Foundation provided support and advice on the establishment of walking group/s, development of walking paths and support for community events and activities.
The project has resulted in the refurbishment of the existing Wudinna to Polda Rock shared pathway, including three new information pods with map information and interpretive signage. The local arts community was involved in the design of pod features, which has created a feeling of community ownership of the project.
Community awareness of the pathway was improved through promotion of community activities, such as National Plant a Tree Day and new signage at the entry, in the Wudinna Memorial Hall and in the town centre. A townships walk brochure has also been commissioned and will be promoted to the community.
Design work and planning has also begun for a shared pathway and interpretation/display pod to be installed at Tcharkuldu Rock, located just out of the township of Minnipa. These enhancements will build community and visitor interest and use of the pathways in the broader district.
Wudinna District Council will continue to run events around the pathways, such as Clean Up Australia Day and National Tree Planting Day to promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity.
Council will continue to invest in this project of upgrading the shared pathways for the community with the aim of decreasing chronic disease by addressing physical inactivity and contributing to community interaction and wellbeing.
