Early Childhood Settings
Off to a healthy start – it makes a difference
Many of our lifestyle habits are established in the first five years of life, and these have an effect on our health through childhood, our teenage years and into adulthood. Parents and carers – together with staff in preschools and early childhood centres – can all give our youngsters a great start by helping them to shape good health habits early on, so they can enjoy a healthy and happy life.
Better health = better development and learning
Whether at home, in an early childhood centre, in a playgroup or at preschool, supporting and promoting healthy learning environments for our under 5s is particularly important for:
- promoting breastfeeding
- supporting healthy eating
- encouraging being active and limiting screen time
- providing smoke-free environments.
What can we do?
