What is resilience?
Resilience is influenced by an individual’s personal characteristics (self-esteem, coping styles), gender, life conditions (employment, housing), and access to economic and social resources (Cox 2006 in WHO). A disaster resilient community is one that works together to understand the risks of major incidents happening in their community and has plans in place for responding and recovering for major incidents if they occur.
