Angiography and Interventional Services at Flinders Medical Centre
The Angiography and Interventional section is one of seven specialised units, which form the Division of Medical Imaging at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC). The section provides a full range of angiography and interventional services for patients throughout the hospital, both inpatients and outpatients. The section performs the full range of procedures incorporating both conventional and interventional angiography procedures. The radiologist will insert a small catheter into a vein or artery and then inject a contrast media, which is radiopaque to X-rays, to provide visualisation of that vein or artery. A series of views of the appropriate area are taken to assist diagnosis or intervention.
All patients must have a referral letter from a medical practitioner before a booking can be made. Most procedures require the patient to be admitted to hospital for care after the procedure.
