Plastic Surgery Clinics at Flinders Medical Centre

The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department conduct clinics from the main Flinders Medical Centre site (FMC), with additional clinics held at Noarlunga Hospital.

Areas serviced

Head and neck cancer

Extirpation of parotid tumours, lip tumours and complex skin cancers of the head and neck. Reconstruction of complex head and neck defects with free tissue transfer and other reconstructive techniques.

Skin cancer

Assessment, excision and reconstruction for all skin cancers.

General plastic surgery conditions

Symptomatic macromastia causing neck and shoulder pain, rashes and excoriation due to redundant skin secondary to massive weight loss, complex scar problems, congenital and developmental abnormalities, including nasal and breast deformities, facial nerve paralysis, as well as other plastic surgery problems are all appropriate for referral for assessment and treatment. 

The clinic follows the SA Health Restricted Elective Surgery Policy Directive and does not manage purely aesthetic (cosmetic) cases.

Hand conditions

Assessment and treatment of elective and emergency hand conditions.

Referrals to be faxed to Clinic F on (08) 8177 0834. Appointments for Noarlunga Hospital Clinics are made from the central FMC site.  If a patient prefers to be seen at Noarlunga, please mention in referral letter.

Nerve injury conditions

Assessment of complex nerve problems such as brachial plexus injury or upper limb dysfunction secondary to spinal injury is performed in a sub-specialty clinic held once per month at FMC.

Post-mastectomy breast reconstruction

Assessment of patients with a history of mastectomy for breast cancer or those at high risk of breast cancer is based at a weekly Breast Reconstruction Clinic within the Breast Unit at FMC.

Referrals to be faxed to the Breast Unit on (08) 8374 3469.

Facial fractures

Assessment and treatment of facial injuries and facial fractures.

Other elective

Sarcoma (in collaboration with orthopaedics), oropharyngeal head and neck cancers (in collaboration with ENT), hidradenitis suppurativa (in collaboration with Dermatology).

Other emergency

Burns (other than those meeting the referral criteria to the Statewide Burns Centre), necrotising soft tissue infections, skin tears and soft tissue wounds.

Referrals

Referral forms to be faxed to Clinic A on (08) 8204 5555, unless otherwise stated.

Emergency referrals can be made 24 hours a day to the on call plastic surgery registrar via the FMC switchboard ((08) 8204 5511).
