Further information about the COVID-19 PPE Decision Matrix

When caring for patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19, the minimum required PPE is a PFR and protective eye wear. Airborne transmission has been recognised as the dominant route of transmission of COVID-19. However, droplet and aerosolised infectious particles can also be a source of direct and indirect transmission at times. A local risk assessment should always be undertaken to determine the most appropriate requirements to maintain patient and staff safety. Standard precautions continue to be required for all patients, regardless of infectious status.
