Ryan Bowman Scholarship
The Ryan Bowman Scholarship aims to strengthen workforce capability across the Limestone Coast Local Health Network (LCLHN) by supporting staff pursuing further education, clinical experience, or professional development in palliative and end-of-life (EOL) care.
Why the scholarship was created
Ryan was born with five congenital heart defects, a combination so rare it occurs in roughly one in ten million births. Ryan passed away in February 2025 at just 33 years of age.
During Ryan’s final hospital admission, the family's knowledge and wishes for his end-of-life care were not recognised in the way they had come to expect. To honour Ryan’s life journey and family’s advocacy, the LCLHN have worked with his family to develop an annual scholarship, providing a lasting legacy in Ryan’s name.
Scholarship overview
The scholarship provides an opportunity for staff to apply for one of three options to best suit their individual learning and experiential needs, including postgraduate study, clinical placement or conference attendance.
Costs are covered up to the value of $5,000.
What we ask of scholarship applicants
To be selected for the scholarship, staff must meet selection criteria and prepare a quality application which demonstrates the person’s commitment, capability and genuine passion for palliative and end-of-life care.
