More South Australian women will now have greater access to life-saving breast cancer screening closer to home with BreastScreen SA introducing its latest pop-up clinic in Aldinga.
A new mammography unit has been temporarily installed at the Aldinga GP Plus Health Care Centre to meet the growing demand for screening in the region.
More than 4,500 women in the target age range of 50 to 74 years currently reside within the greater Aldinga, McLaren Vale and Willunga region with this population predicted to significantly grow over the next 10 years.
In Aldinga, participation rates sit below the program level, at around 47 per cent with around 1,200 clients currently accessing screening services through the Christies Beach Clinic or the mobile screening unit which visits McLaren Vale every two years. Its latest visit to McLaren Vale concluded in December last year.
The pop-up clinic at the Aldinga GP Plus Health Care Centre is now open with appointments available three days per week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

BreastScreen SA has been progressively working on identifying areas of low participation and reduced accessibility with the aim of providing more services within these regions.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we successfully implemented temporary pop-up clinics at Victor Harbor and Port Lincoln, with our pop-up clinic at Mount Barker proving so successful, we were able to convert into an ongoing clinic.
It is important that women over 40 years, especially those aged 50 to 74, have a breast screen every two years to check for subtle breast tissue changes, so we’ve partnered with the Aldinga GP Plus Health Care Centre to create a dedicated pop-up clinic for the women of Aldinga and surrounds.
This latest pop-up will be available over the next six months to ensure women in the Aldinga area have timely access to our service, closer to home, while we continue to assess the increased delivery of services in the region.
