More for Modbury Hospital

The State Government is investing $96.5 million to modernise the Modbury Hospital to support increased surgical and medical services and improve facilities for both patients and staff. Completed facilities include:

  • A new 8 bed Emergency Extended Care Unit for patient observation and treatment up to 24 hours, improving the flow of new patients in the ED - completed in August 2019.
  • The re-establishment of a High Dependency Unit, enabling patients who require high level monitoring and management of their condition to be cared for at Modbury Hospital - completed 31 March 2021.
  • A new front entrance and refurbished façade - completed 31 March 2021.
  • A new café on the ground level which provides a relaxed meeting place for patients and visitors - completed 31 March 2021.
  • A new Outpatients Department for a more streamlined process in a purpose built, modern facility - completed April 2021.
  • A total redevelopment of the surgical suites including a day surgery unit, overnight ward facilities, four operating theatres and two procedure rooms so more patients can have their surgery locally - completed April 2021.

Facilities yet to be completed include:

  • A new Palliative Care Unit with ensuite rooms, access to private gardens and a home-like environment - to be completed end of 2021.
  • A Short Stay General Medical Unit for the care and treatment of patients who need a short hospital stay (between 24 to 72 hours) - to be completed early 2022.
  • A lift upgrade - completion expected mid-2022.
