In November 2022, the Automated External Defibrillators (Public Access) Act 2022 was passed by both Houses of the South Australian Parliament and received royal assent by the Governor in December 2022.

Following a review of the legislation, and feedback received from building owners and other impacted groups, changes were proposed by way of an Amendment Bill to enable consistent application and implementation of the Act.

Following public consultation between 16 October and 14 November 2024, the Automated External Defibrillators (Public Access) Regulations 2024 (PDF 192KB) were proposed and have been operational since January 2025.

For more information on the application of the Act and the Regulations, refer to the AED Best Practice Guide (PDF 417KB).
