Consumer Led Fasting Guidelines

Clinical Governance Unit, Southern Adelaide Local Health Network

A review of annual consumer data by SALHN Partnering with Consumers Advisory Group identified a need to align existing guidelines with best practice for pre-surgery fasting, particularly for diabetic and elderly patients. New guidelines have ensured that patients are adequately hydrated prior to surgery and higher risk patients receive carbohydrate drinks reducing their risk of suffering adverse conditions. This collaborative project between consumers and staff has improved the patient experience and reduced negative feedback about fasting by 60%.

Person and Family Centred Care WCHN Consumer Coffee Club

Community Engagement Division, Women’s and Children’s Health Network

More than a chin-wag, the Person and Family Centred Care WCHN Consumer Coffee Club is a fortnightly feedback experience delivered by consumers for consumers. Gathering consumer feedback moves beyond the norm as consumer representatives transform the experience of understanding consumer/care journeys through a relational-based methodology. With an aim at understanding root causes getting in the way of excellent care provision the WCHN team have actively engaged over 500 families in a 20 month period.

Service Matters – Going the Extra Mile

Flinders and Upper North, Country Health SA Local Health Network

The Going the Extra Mile program aims to shift the cultural mind set associated with being a monopoly in health service provision, to one that is customer oriented. The Flinders and Upper North (F&UN) Region of Country Health SA partnered with consumers to inform the ‘Service Matters – Going the Extra Mile’ training program – from workshop design and workshop delivery, through to evaluation and improvement.
