Free mental health services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in South Australia, from counselling to crisis support.

If you need support with your mental health, there are free services available across South Australia that can help – whether you need someone to talk to, help finding the right service, or urgent care in a mental health crisis.

Medicare Mental Health phone line – 1800 595 212

Free phone support to help you find the right support for your situation. You can speak with a mental health worker who will listen, talk through your options and connect you with appropriate services.

  • Hours: 8:30am – 5:00pm weekdays (excluding public holidays)

Medicare Mental Health Centres

Medicare Mental Health Centres are safe, welcoming spaces where you can walk in and get free mental health support.

Speak with a mental health worker who will listen, provide support and help connect you with the care you need.

If you’re experiencing a mental health crisis or need urgent support, help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Mental Health Triage Service – 13 14 65

Call the Mental Health Triage Service to speak to a trained mental health professional who will assess your situation, provide immediate advice and support, and connect you with emergency or ongoing care.

Urgent Mental Health Care Centre

The Urgent Mental Health Care Centre in the city is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for immediate support with no referral, appointment or Medicare card required.

I need ongoing support

For ongoing mental health care, your GP is a good place to start. They can assess your needs and, if appropriate, prepare a Mental Health Treatment Plan that gives you access to Medicare-subsidised sessions with a mental health professional.

In a life-threatening emergency

If you or someone else is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, or serious injury, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
