Hepatic Pancreatic and Biliary Surgical Unit at Flinders Medical Centre

The unit is composed of surgeons who specialise in benign and malignant conditions that affect the:

  • liver
  • gallbladder
  • bile ducts
  • pancreas

These include surgery for primary and metastatic liver cancers, pancreatic tumours and complex benign and malignant biliary tract problems.

The unit also manages acute general surgery problems, as well as more common abdominal surgical problems such as gallstones and groin and abdominal hernias. Some obesity and upper gastro-intestinal surgical services are provided in collaboration with the Oesophago-Gastric Surgical Unit.

Several of the surgeons on the unit also perform ERCP, an endoscopy procedure used to manage complex bile duct and pancreas duct problems. Surgeons on the unit are also involved in SA Liver Transplant unit based at FMC.
