Clinical Psychology Services at Flinders Medical Centre

Psychologists provide a range of services to both adults and children at Flinders Medical Centre (FMC).

Paediatric services

A number of psychology services are provided to Paediatrics and Child Health. This includes psychological assessments conducted in the work of the Children’s Assessment Team. The Children’s Assessment Team offers a one-day multidisciplinary approach to the assessment of children with complex developmental problems and autism spectrum disorders.

Psychological assessments and therapy are also provided for children referred by FMC paediatric consultants.

Neuropsychology services

This service is available to adults over the age of 18 who have, or are suspected of having, acquired brain dysfunction. Patients must live within the FMC catchment area or previously have been registered at FMC. Referrals are accepted from all FMC clinical staff, private medical specialists and general practitioners. Psycho-Oncology Services

Clinical psychology sessions are available to adults over the age of 18 who are affected by cancer; that is, people currently going through treatment, survivors and partners/carers.

Patients receiving palliative care are not eligible. Psychological assessments and therapy are offered to individuals and/or couples. In addition a 'Surviving Cancer' group therapy program is offered twice yearly for all people with early stage cancer. Common reasons for referral include depression, anxiety, adjustment difficulties, grief and loss, insomnia and pain. Referrals are accepted from all FMC medical staff.
