Hand Therapy Service

SALHN’s Hand Therapy service is an interdisciplinary service staffed by Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists at Flinders Medical Centre and Noarlunga Hospital. The service provides hand therapy assessment and intervention to outpatients and inpatients with a mix of acute trauma and chronic conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. This includes:

  • Splinting and rehabilitation
  • Pre surgical assessment and treatment
  • Post surgical management and intervention
  • Acute and post acute hand injury management
  • Chronic hand condition management
  • Scar, burn and oedema management

Client group includes all ages within the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network and some country patients. 

Common conditions treated include:

  • fractures
  • tendon repairs
  • joint replacements
  • nerve compression syndromes
  • arthritis
  • infections
  • tendinopathies and more.

NOTE: all stroke/neurological patients should be referred to the Day Rehabilitation Service, not the Hand Therapy Service.
