Breast health - information on the structure and function of the breast as well as the importance of breast awareness
BreastScreen SA aims to find breast changes before you can feel them. If you have a symptom outlined below, we will not be able to screen you until you have had it checked by your doctor.
Symptoms to look out for can include:
If you have any of the above, or any other change that is not normal for you, please see your doctor as soon as possible to have it checked.
A breast screen is not a suitable test for symptomatic women, as not all breast cancers show on a screening mammogram. More detailed and through tests are needed to examine the area, including diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, clinical breast examination and in some cases a biopsy.
If you are unsure about whether you have a new or changing symptom or not, call BreastScreen SA on 132050 and you can speak with one of our Medical Officers.
