Protect against influenza

Influenza virus strains change every year.

Get vaccinated every year before winter to protect yourself and loved ones from influenza and reduce the chance of needing emergency care.

Even healthy people can get very sick from influenza.

Last year 3,692 South Australians were admitted to hospital with serious influenza infections.

Influenza is a highly-infectious disease which:

  • is much more serious than a common cold
  • spreads easily and very quickly through community
  • can cause breathing problems, chest infections and painful ear infections
  • can lead to serious complications like bronchitis, pneumonia, or even death.

The good news is that serious influenza infections (and hospital visits) can be prevented with a vaccination.
