Last year 3,692 South Australians were admitted to hospital with serious influenza infections.
Influenza is a highly-infectious disease which:
- is much more serious than a common cold
- spreads easily and very quickly through community
- can cause breathing problems, chest infections and painful ear infections
- can lead to serious complications like bronchitis, pneumonia, or even death.
The good news is that serious influenza infections (and hospital visits) can be prevented with a vaccination.
