COVID-19 Health System Response 

South Australia’s COVID-19 health system response is informed by the latest evidence, national and international experience which sees the vast majority (in excess of 95% and often as high as 99%) safely managed in the community  outside of the hospital setting. South Australia’s system response is focused on providing the right care, in the right location, at the right time by supporting the valuable role that primary care plays in the community response, supporting medically vulnerably South Australians through escalations from the National Coronavirus Helpline, and providing acute hospital care for those who need it.

The role of primary care

South Australia’s GP and pharmacists play an important role in caring for the majority of COVID-19 positive individuals in our community.

COVID-19 positive individuals who require health support are encouraged to contact their GP or call the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080 — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week who will escalate care if required.

Contact assessment and management guidance
