Preparing for COVID
Most people with COVID-19 will have mild symptoms and be able to safely isolate and manage their symptoms at home. It’s important to have a plan in case you or anyone in your household gets COVID-19.
There are a few steps you can take to keep both you and your household safe:
1. Get vaccinated and wear a mask
If you are vaccinated, you are less likely to go to hospital or get seriously ill from COVID-19. Book your vaccination
Carry a mask with you at all times, even if they aren’t mandatory. Use your mask when you can’t keep 1.5 metres away from others.
2. Prepare a COVID-Ready kit for your household
Stock up on some common household items to treat your COVID-19 symptoms, such as:
- a thermometer
- pain relief (paracetamol or ibuprofen)
- your regular medications (keep more than 2 weeks supply)
- oral rehydration solutions/powders/tablets
- sore throat lozenges
- a plan for who can look after your children, pets, or people in your care if you have to go to hospital
- masks, hand sanitiser and gloves
- a plan for how you’ll get food and essentials for two weeks (know how to order online or have a family member/friend who can drop off supplies).
