Mental Health First Aid Accredited Instructor logo

Research has found the Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid Course to be effective and culturally appropriate, empowering Aboriginal people and providing information that is highly relevant in assisting Aboriginal people experiencing mental health problems.

This course:

  • is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of Aboriginal people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals
  • is not a therapy or support group
  • covers mental health problems including depression, anxiety, psychosis and  substance use problems
  • covers mental health crises including suicidal thoughts and behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury, panic attacks, traumatic events, severe psychotic states, severe effects from alcohol or other drug use, aggressive behaviours.

Foundational course suitable for any Aboriginal and non-Indigenous adults.

14 hour course, typically conducted over 2 days

Outcomes

The Aboriginal Mental Health First Aid course will teach you how to assist an Aboriginal adult who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence based Action Plan.

Cost

  • $65.45 ($60.00 + $5.45GST)
  • $0 for all SA public mental health workforce including placement students

An administration fee of $25.00 will apply to all participants if you do not attend without notice on the day, or cancel within 24 hours of the course commencing.
